What Are Dental Veneers and How Can They Transform Your Smile?
Veneers provide a way to cover problem teeth, showing the world a pearly, even smile. Learn more about this transformative treatment.

There are certain parts of your physical appearance with which you’re stuck. Fortunately, your teeth aren’t one of them.

With dental veneers, you can completely transform even the most aesthetically compromised tooth. Whether you have a problem tooth you want to cover or get a set to transform your smile, we can help.

As an expert in cosmetic dentistry, Nisha Modi, DMD, has extensive experience fitting patients with veneers at Miracle Smile Dental. Visit Dr. Modi and our team in Aubrey, Texas. When you share your smile goals with us, we can create a personalized plan for your veneers.

How veneers work

Veneers provide a way to cover imperfections. Dr. Modi bonds the veneer — a thin shell made of porcelain or composite resin — to the front of one of your teeth. This way, people see the veneer rather than the aesthetic issue.

Dr. Modi can size the veneer slightly bigger than your tooth to correct shape issues, too.

As a result, veneers give you a way to address:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Gaps in your teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Overly short teeth
  • Stained teeth

By applying the veneer to one problem tooth, Dr. Modi makes the issue disappear. You can also choose veneers over a full arch of teeth. People often choose this to lengthen too-short teeth or to brighten their smile.

What to expect with veneers

The veneer process depends on the type that’s right for you.

If you choose a porcelain veneer, Dr. Modi first prepares your tooth by removing a thin layer from its front, which allows the veneer to lie flush with your surrounding teeth.

She then takes an impression of the tooth to create a veneer that precisely fits the tooth. Once it’s ready, she bonds the veneer in place.

With resin composite veneers, you can skip the veneer creation. In this case, Dr. Modi prepares your tooth and sculpts the composite material on the tooth’s surface. Once you’re both happy with the appearance of the tooth, she uses a specialized light to harden it in place.

Once you have them, veneers don’t require intensive care. You need to maintain them like you do your natural teeth. Brush and floss daily and visit Dr. Modi regularly. She can evaluate your veneer to make sure it’s still securely bonded in place.

To preserve your veneers through the years, the American Dental Association recommends avoiding:

  • Biting anything hard, like your nails, pens, or ice
  • Playing sports without a mouthguard
  • Consuming staining foods and drinks
